Nwankwo Kanu, a footballing star in Nigeria, has declared that he has not endorsed any political candidate for the upcoming general elections in February.
This comes after rumors circulated that he might support a particular contender, such as his fellow countryman Daniel Amokachi.
The football player, however, insisted that endorsing a politician was not in his nature and urged Nigerians to avoid believing such untrue rumors about him.
in a video that was posted on his verified Instagram account, the Olympic gold medalist urged Nigerians to cast their votes in large numbers for the candidate of their choice.
He said "my countrymen" I am a football player, I say it and I will say it again, , am not a politician. Whoever is there, is just talking and disseminating false information about me by claiming that I urged you to vote for Who, Who, and Who. I avoid doing that. My name is Kanu "Papilo" Nwankwo, and as you may know, football has been the focus of my life.
"That is what I do, and I'm proud of it; could you kindly stop now? Stop spreading fake, false rumors about Papilo. I'm here to help, not hurt, the people.
"Go collect your PVC and vote for the best candidate. Make a decision. You are aware of the best. Vote to make Nigeria a better place. Stop! Although I remained silent, please go and vote."
To support his point even more, the 47-year-old used his caption section to firmly warn that anyone who uses his name to promote false information will face consequences
Kanu continued, "Hello, people of my country. Vote morally and honestly. Please stop distributing false information using my name, claiming that I am the one requesting that you vote for anyone. Instead, go get your PVC and vote. Any media source, individual, or group that continues to exploit my name to propagate false information will face legal repercussions. Let's all follow guided."
